THE
CHALLENGE OF LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
SESSION DESCRIPTIONS |
This CHALLENGE OF LEADERSHIP
PROGRAM consists of a series of practical
and relevant LEADERSHIP skill building sessions.
Each session is designed for a 3 hour time frame. Fieldwork and
assignments will be given between sessions that focus on the practical
application of the material. The session descriptions are below.
Session 1. THE LEADER'S EDGE
The first session will acquaint you with a process that is designed
to get the optimum results. Five specific leadership behaviors
that make a difference will be spotlighted. You will also learn
what the most important traits of a superior leader are and specific
techniques will be emphasized on how to boost your leadership
skills.
Sessions 2 & 3. LISTENING LEADERSHIP
Research studies confirm that people ignore, misunderstand, or
simply forget at least 75% of what they hear. And the costs of
poor listening can be staggering: loss of money, personality
clashes, low morale - to name a few! In this seminar, you will
learn how to diagnose your own listening breakdowns through understanding
the "SIER Formula" for listening success. You will
also analyze the 10 primary listening habits and get feedback
on your own habits. In-depth information and application will
be given on 6 critical Listening Skills that can increase your
listening effectiveness immediately in all areas of your life.
Session 4. EFFECTIVE GOAL SETTING & DOING
The major purpose of this session is to show you how to set goals
with an employee for maximum performance. You will be actively
involved in a goal-setting exercise that will point out the key
factors for success. Emphasis will also be placed on how to write,
communicate, and execute meaningful goals. You will also develop
a 60 day Big Bold Leadership Goal.
Session 5. PEOPLE LEADERSHIP: DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT
FOLKS
Before a leader can expect to achieve results with and through
other people, it is essential that they first "know themselves".
During this program, you will be provided with tools to better
understand yourself and others with whom you work. You will receive
valuable feedback on how you see yourself, how you react under
pressure, and how others see you. Specific relationship strategies
will be covered and you will construct your own personal action
plan for capitalizing on your "people" skills.
Session 6. THE SITUATIONAL LEADER
This session will help you to become a more flexible and effective
leader by learning the basics of an "organized common sense" system
for getting results with and through other people. You will become
familiar with 4 powerful leadership styles and learn the techniques
of how and when to use each style. You will also learn how to
assess your employees’ development levels and needs.
Session 7. HOW TO MOTIVATE EMPLOYEES
This session takes a new look at the old question of motivation
("How can I motivate my employees?"). You will learn
what motivation is and review some of the latest studies on what
makes people work productively. A variety of practical tools and
techniques will be covered including how to enrich any job. You
will also learn the 3 powerful secrets of
the One-Minute Manager and how to apply them.
Session 8. COACHING FOR POSITIVE DIRECTION
Having the skills to coach others is a must in today's fast-paced
business climate. In this session, you will explore methods and
techniques to bridge the gap between what is expected and what
is actually happening on the job. Effective coaching provides
an on-going system of communication for guiding, supporting,
and enabling people to develop. You will also learn an effective
method for discussing and resolving any performance problem.
The foundation of coaching for positive direction is helping
employees to take responsibility for their own behavior.
Session 9. PERFORMANCE REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT
This skill-building program is designed to show you how performance
reviews can be both useful and motivating tools for employees.
You will sharpen your performance interviewing techniques with
the help of a proven 9-step plan. A variety of interactive exercises
will be used to assist you in practicing your skills
Session 10. Leadership Development and Accountability
This session focuses on a 3 stage continuous improvement leadership
process. You will be challenged with a specific individualized
case exercise that can assist you in your future leadership development
journey. During this energizing session, you will share leadership
success stories. Strategies will be discussed on how to extend
these successes into a continuous process. This session enables
leaders to present the progress on their Big Bold Leadership
Goal over a 60 day period. The value to both the leader and the
organization are identified.
LEADERSHIP ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTIONS
- LEADERSHP PRACTICES
INVENTORY – a
360 degree leadership assessment instrument that measures 5 categories
of leadership behavior: Modeling the Way, Enabling Others to
Act, Inspiring a Shared Vision, Challenging the Process and Encouraging
the Heart. This tool helps leaders assess the extent to which
they actually use these practices so that they can make plans
for improvement.
- STYLES INSIGHT – Behavioral research
suggests that the most effective leaders are those who understand
themselves, both their strengths and weaknesses, so they can
develop strategies to meet the demands of their environment.
The report is highly personalized and helps leaders to attain
a greater knowledge of themselves as well as others, thus strengthening
their ability to interact effectively with others. This report
measures four dimensions of behavior:
- How the leader responds
to problems and challenges;
- How the leader influences others
to their point of view;
- How the leader responds to the pace
of their environment;
- How the leader responds to the
rules and procedures set by others
- LISTENING
LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOR INVENTORY – Listening Leadership® is
the process of guiding yourself and others to positive results
through the power of listening. This is a tool that is designed
by Dr. Rick Bommelje and assesses how you perceive your own
listening behaviors and also how others perceive how you listen.
The first half of your report will present information on your
scores on each of the Ten Listening Leader
Golden Rules. The
second half of the report presents the comparison between your
scores and your observer scores. The gap analysis of the 10
Golden Rules shows the difference in perception between your
scores and your observers' scores. Knowing how others believe
how you listen is critical for effective leadership.
